That version exists, and we will get to the specs, but it misses the point of what this product actually does to your workflow when you first use it properly on a set.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The WiTalk 9X is one of those pieces of kit that reveals a problem you did not know you had. I will say it plainly up front: I have reviewed quite a few wireless intercom systems, and this is the best in its class I have used so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Is the Saramonic WiTalk 9X?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The WiTalk 9X is the direct successor to Saramonic&#8217;s WiTalk 9, a wireless intercom system that had already built a strong reputation in the production community since its launch at IBC 2024. The 9X keeps everything that made the original reliable \u2014 1.9 GHz DECT frequency, hub-free operation for up to 9 users, strong range \u2014 and rebuilds the headset hardware around a new modular frame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In practical terms, that means one headset that converts between single-ear, dual-ear, and helmet-ready configurations. There is a small screwdriver included in the box that you use to detach and swap the headband components, and once you know what you are doing it takes just a few seconds. Saramonic quote 10 seconds, and that is about right. Ear cushions, headband padding, and the metal band itself are all user-replaceable. The system weighs 172 grams in single-ear configuration with battery, the lightest intercom headset I have used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Real-World Test<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I took the WiTalk 9X to a church concert, a genuinely loud environment, loud enough that my own watch was actively flagging the noise level in the room. I was directing, and I had two friends and fellow creators, Jo and Femi, wearing the headsets alongside me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jo spent the session roaming with a gimbal on the single-ear headset. At points he was standing directly in front of very loud PA speakers, and he could still hear me clearly. His own words afterwards: he loved the sound quality, felt the headset was built with high quality materials, and would recommend it. At one point I signalled him to step out and take a break, and he walked clean out of the building, still connected, well past where I expected the range to hold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Femi&#8217;s experience is where the modularity earned its keep. He started on the dual-ear headset, but he has a large afro, and the headband could not extend far enough to sit properly over his hair. So he and Jo swapped, leaving Femi on the single-ear. His honest feedback was that the fit was not ideal for him and that it affected how well he could hear, which is fair. But that is a configuration problem, not a product problem. The helmet-ready headband sits differently and would have gone under his hair rather than clamping over it, solving the fit entirely. That was me bringing the wrong module for Femi&#8217;s situation, and it is a perfect illustration of why a modular system matters on a real crew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>ClearTalk 2.0 \u2014 The Noise Cancellation Upgrade<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The headline technical improvement over the original WiTalk 9 is ClearTalk 2.0 \u2014 a dual-microphone array with a dedicated AI audio chip and Saramonic&#8217;s updated noise cancellation algorithm. A cardioid primary microphone captures the speaker&#8217;s voice. A secondary omnidirectional microphone samples ambient sound. The AI chip uses both signals to isolate voice from environment, and Saramonic state it was trained on a very large noise dataset, the same kind of AI noise cancellation approach that runs through their other audio products like the Air SE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The claimed reduction is up to 40 decibels of background noise. In that church concert, it held up. Latency is published at 35 milliseconds, and in real-time directing at that volume, the delay was imperceptible. It felt instant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why 1.9 GHz DECT Matters<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you have ever had a wireless system drop mid-take on a congested event floor, this is why. The WiTalk 9X operates on 1.9 GHz DECT, a band largely separate from the 2.4 GHz congestion that affects most Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and consumer wireless devices. On a busy set or live event with multiple crews operating simultaneously, that separation is the difference between a system you can rely on and one you manage around. Range is rated at 400 metres line-of-sight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Features Worth Knowing<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Announce Function: <\/em><\/strong>A dedicated button on the master headset broadcasts to all connected headsets simultaneously, with all other units automatically muted until the button is released. For directing a crew before a take, this became my favourite feature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>App Control: <\/em><\/strong>The companion app shows every connected headset, individual battery levels, mute and unmute per headset, and group assignment. Being able to monitor battery levels across a crew before rolling is genuinely useful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Third-Party Earphones: <\/em><\/strong>With Saramonic&#8217;s 2.5mm to 3.5mm TRRS adapter, any earphone with an inline microphone can be used in place of the headset. Useful for documentary or run-and-gun work where discretion matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Scalability: <\/em><\/strong>The 9X supports up to 9 simultaneous users without a hub. Add the WiTalk Base unit and capacity increases to 16. Link four base units and the system scales to 64 users across up to 8 separate groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Honest Part<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two things worth flagging before the verdict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First, comfort. I wear glasses, and after prolonged use the headset presses my ear against the arm of my glasses and it starts to ache. This appears specific to my situation, something I tend to experience with headsets generally, and it may well come down to how firm the metal band is, which is also the reason the headset never once threatened to slip off. I have raised it directly with Saramonic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Second, monitoring. One feature I would have loved is the ability to patch in scratch audio, so you can monitor what you are recording while still talking to your crew. The older WiTalk 9 could do this through its LINK cable. On the 9X, at least on the headsets alone without the Base unit, I could not find a way to do it. Whether this is possible through the Base, I cannot confirm, as my kit did not include one. On a large production this is often handled by a dedicated audio person anyway, so how much it matters depends entirely on how you work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The WiTalk 9X is also not cheap. The 5-person kit sits at $900, the 9-person dual-ear configuration at $1,800. If you shoot solo, this is not your next purchase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The natural comparison is the Hollyland Solidcom C1 Pro, a proven and well-regarded system worth serious consideration, particularly on quieter locations. Where the WiTalk 9X pulls ahead is modularity, ClearTalk 2.0 performance in loud environments, and scalability ceiling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Verdict<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I have reviewed a lot of gear. Most of it goes back in the box. This did not. It is already part of my kit, and that is probably the biggest compliment I can give any piece of equipment. In real-world shooting, being able to hear and communicate with your crew is worth more than almost any other single feature, because that is what stops you missing the shot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">The 5-person single\/dual-ear kit is priced at $900. The 9-person dual-ear configuration is $1,800.
